July 4th Tips

Let the festivities begin! Here are some tips to make your July 4th Jubilee at Wintergreen successful.

  • There is no admission fee.
  • Bring a sweater for the evening, mountain temps are cooler.
  • Come up earlier in the day and enjoy the activities. Early arrival gives you a better opportunity to find the perfect parking place. Also we may have to close the gate due to capacity. Last year it closed around 8 pm.
  • Live music starts at 11 am and goes until the fireworks start. Outdoor from the Dunlop Pavilion enjoy Hunter Wolfe, Blue Country, NT Band and Walrus. The Edge will feature Bryan Elijah Smith & The Wildhearts from 9:30 am-midnight.
  • Outside alcohol is not permitted due to ABC licensing. Coolers will be checked and outside alcohol will be confiscated.
  • A nice selection of beer, wine, refreshments and food will be for sale.
  • Picnicking is permitted, but be sure to check out the food court offering all your summer favorites.
  • Fireworks start at 9:30 pm. The best place to see the sky light up is below the Blue Ridge Terrace on the grassy hill.
  • Avoid the mass exodus after the fireworks, stick around for the final special performance from Walrus.

Rain or shine we’ll be here. Come join the fun!

Beat the Heat at Wintergreen!

Average Mountaintop Temperatures

While the heatwave continues in most of Virginia and beyond, we're staying cool.  Temps are forecast to hit 98 tomorrow in D.C., 100 in Richmond with a heat index of 105. But at Wintergreen, we're above it all at nearly 3,900 feet, and our temperatures rarely top 80 all summer long. It is not uncommon to experience temperatures 12 to 15 degrees lower than Charlottesville and more than 18 degrees lower than experienced on the same day in Richmond, Washington D.C. and Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill.

Our cool temperatures mean you can escape the oppressive summer heat at home and actually enjoy being outside.  You can enjoy all your favorite outdoor summer activities, and maybe try a few new ones. Golf, tennis, swimming at the pools and Lake Monocan, hiking, archery, and a host of other activities at Discovery Ridge Adventure Center like summer tubing and ziplining.  There's even our Mountains of Adventure pass which bundles free and discounted activities.

If you're looking for more relaxation than adventure, you can put your feet up at The Spa, lounge at the pools and Lake Monocan, and take a vacation from cooking at our four restaurants.  You won't heat up the house if you never have to turn on the oven. Take a look at our Buy/Get Special Offers and stay an extra night or two on us!

Archery: Take Aim!

Now you can channel your inner Katniss Everdeen or Robin Hood at Wintergreen! We recently expanded our recreational activities to include the sport of archery, and it was a huge success. The program is targeting archers ages eight and up and is a great family outing. Archery is also available for conference groups with advance reservations.

One of the best thing about archery at Wintergreen is that you get beginner lessons with field time, so you don't need to be an expert.  Bows and arrows are included in the cost, and we'll teach you the basics! The range will have ten stations and each person will have their own target with the choice of 10, 20, 25 and 35 yard distances. So come on up and beat the heat in our shady archery range on top of the mountain. Temps on the mountain rarely top 80, so it's the perfect summer getaway.

Mountains of Adventure

Archery is at a 25% discount when you buy a Mountains of Adventure pass.  The Mountains of Adventure program bundles free and discounted activities from all over the mountain into one pass.  Mountains of Adventure is your ticket to fun and it's only available to registered Wintergreen Resort guests.

Want to know more? Visit the archery webpage and watch the following Mountain Minute -- Josh and Ellen will show you all the right moves!

Golf Ball Massage for Dad

Father's Day is right around the corner - June 21 to be exact. If you're looking for something extra special to get Dad this year, we have a real treat for you: Golf Ball Massage!  During the month of July, The Spa at Wintergreen will be offering this exciting new treatment -- book the appointment now and give it as a Father's Day gift.

The size, shape and density of a golf ball make it the ideal instrument to reach deep knots in the muscles. After a day hitting golf balls at Stoney Creek or Devils Knob Golf Course, let the golf ball work for you. Melt away on our heated tables while your therapist uses a golf ball to soothe away tension, delve in to those tight muscle knots, and create a massage experience that is becoming all the rage.

Bring a receipt from your recent tee time (within 1 week of the requested service) and receive 15% off of this new service. But you don't have to be a golfer to enjoy this service. Book a Golf Ball Massage service within the month of July and receive a bounce back coupon of 15% for another Golf Ball Massage service booked in July. 50 Minutes; weekend: $114; midweek: $104.00. Please call 434-325-8562 to schedule your appointment.
