WINTERGREEN RESORT UNVEILS 2011-12 SKI SEASON RATES

WINTERGREEN, Va. (Oct. 19, 2011) – Wintergreen Resort, twice named “Best Ski Resort” by readers of the Washington Post.com, has announced an array of affordable rate and pass options for the skier and snowboarder for the upcoming 2011-2012 winter season. With the MDA Earth Sat Weather prediction (http://www.mdafederal.com/wx) that the current series of cold winters will continue, with La Nina and blocking working in tandem to chill the Midwest and east.

Here’s a closer look:

Season Passes.  Individuals and students can save $40 by purchasing their season pass by Dec. 5.  Individual passes are $309, while student passes are $209.  Family passes, which include four individual passes for parents and their children, are $729 by Dec. 5, and $789 effective Dec. 6.  Season passes are valid opening day (projected to be Dec. 10) through Dec. 25, and Feb. 26 through the end of the season.  Passholders save $15 off the purchase of a lift ticket during holiday periods (Dec. 26-Jan. 2, Jan. 14-16 and Feb. 18-20).  From Jan. 2 through Feb. 26, passes are valid from 12:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday night closing.

Four-Pack Pass.  This pass pays for itself in three visits, as an adult four-pack pass is $179, while it is $159 for students.  Passholders who present their card at the ticket window will receive one lift ticket for that day.  The same valid date criteria, and holiday restrictions, are in place for the Four-Pack Pass as for season passes.

Lift Tickets.  Non-holiday full-session (up to eight hours) weekday rates are $50 for adults and $40 for youths (ages 6-12) and seniors (ages 65 and older), and $70 and $55, respectively, for weekends and holidays.  Lift tickets for half sessions (up to four hours), extended sessions (9 a.m. to close if night skiing is available) and night sessions (5 p.m. to close) also are available, as well as flex tickets for both eight- and four-hour increments.

The mountain’s hours of operation for the 2011-12 season are:

  • Monday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except Dec. 26, Jan. 16 and Feb. 20 when the mountain closes at 9 p.m.)
  • Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday-Saturday: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Holidays: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (except Dec. 26, Jan. 16 and Feb. 20 when the mountain closes at 9 p.m.)

Children five and under are free with a paying adult, while military discounts are available.  In addition, the resort’s WintergreenU program offers pass options for college students. Check it out at www.wintergreenresort.com/college-specials.

HEAD and Rossignol rental equipment is available for skiers and snowboarders, and the rental shop is now paperless so that rentals are processed electronically.  Pre-registering online (www.wintergreenresort.com/rentals/) for rentals is free and gets the skier and snowboarder on the snow faster.

A full complement of lessons also is available for all ages and ability levels.  There is even a “Guaranteed Learn to Ski & Ride” lesson where the Wintergreen staff guarantees that skiers (ages 6 and older) and riders (ages 8 and older) will be turning and stopping by the end of the first lesson.  More information is available at www.wintergreenresort.com/Guaranteed-Learn-to-Ski/.

For skiers and snowboarders, Wintergreen offers 26 slopes on 129 skiable acres with two high-speed chairlifts. The resort features the region’s most extensive terrain, with ample slopes for beginners, intermediates and experts alike.  Fourteen slopes are lighted for night skiing and the resort’s longest run is 1.4 miles.  Two terrain parks and the region’s top snowtubing park add to the winter recreational offerings.

Wintergreen Ski Patrol, which is dedicated to ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience for all mountain guests, has been named the winner of the Outstanding Large Alpine Patrol Award for 2010-11 by the National Ski Patrol.  The 130-member, all-volunteer organization is primarily responsible for the rescue and emergency care of customers, employees and visitors to Wintergreen Resort.
