WINTERGREEN RESORT’S ‘SNOW LICENSE PROGRAM’
IS PURE FUN FOR 5TH AND
6TH GRADERS
WINTERGREEN,
Va. (Dec. 6, 2011) – Imagine how many different things bring smiles to the
faces of fifth and sixth graders. Add another to the list: Wintergreen Resort, for the second
consecutive season, is rolling out its Snow License Program, which offers
complimentary ski and snowboard passes to every 5th and 6th
grader in the greater Mid-Atlantic region, good for three visits throughout the
upcoming winter season. Students currently enrolled in fifth and sixth
grade (including those who are home schooled) and who reside in Virginia,
Maryland, District of Columbia, North Carolina or West Virginia are eligible.
The 5th & 6th Grade Snow
License® Program, which begins Jan. 3, 2012, is designed to encourage
skiing and snowboarding opportunities for youngsters, with a particular focus
on those who are new to winter sports.
“We feel
it’s important to introduce snow sports to new audiences,” said Jay Roberts,
vice president of mountain operations for Wintergreen Resort, located in
Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, twice named "Best Ski Resort" by the
readers of WashingtonPost.com and one of the Mid-Atlantic's premier ski
areas. “This program, while innovative in our area, is part of an
industry-wide effort focused on attracting newer, younger participants and
converting them into loyal skiers and riders.”
Students
enrolled in the Snow License program must be accompanied by a paying adult who
will receive a $15 discount off the eight-hour session lift ticket (regularly
$40) or a $10 discount off the four-hour session lift ticket (regularly
$30). An additional adult or sibling may purchase a lift ticket at the
same discounted price, while the maximum ratio is one adult per two Snow
License participants.
Program
participants and accompanying adults/siblings are eligible to purchase rental
equipment for $25 per person or $30/person for rental and a group lesson.
Rental equipment requires pre-registering from the Wintergreen Resort web site.
Students
will need to bring a report card to validate their enrollment in fifth or sixth
grade. The program is not valid on Saturdays or the two Sundays preceding
holidays (Jan. 15 and Feb. 19), and is eligible for only one visit per week.
The
mountain’s hours of operation for the 2011-12 season, as they apply to the Snow
License Program, are:
