Trail Rides

We offer one hour guided trail rides through pine forests and open fields with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountain for the novice to the advanced rider.

Novice Group Trail Ride

For your safety, the guided group ride for the novice rider is conducted at a walk only. Helmets, which we provide, and closed toed shoes are required. For your comfort, long pants are strongly suggested.

Weekdays (Tuesday - Friday) 10:30am and 1:30pm - $58 per person
Weekdend (Saturday - Sunday) 9:30am 11am and 2pm - $60 per person

Advanced Private Ride

For the private advanced ride, riders must be competent at walk, trot, and canter in English tack and must have had experience riding in the open. Helmets and boots with a 1" heel are required. Advanced ride times are subject to weather, footing conditions and availability. Summer advanced rides are scheduled at 9a.m. only because of the summer heat. Spring and Fall rides are scheduled during the morning business hours.

Cost per person: $68 weekdays; $70 weekends

Sunset Trail Ride at Rodes Farm Stables

Summer Saturday Sunset Trail Ride

New this year. Summer evenings are the best time to ride; cool breezes, wildlife, and stunning sunsets over the Blue Ridge. The ride is a novice ride conducted at a walking pace so everyone can enjoy the sights and sounds of the evening.

Sunset Dinner Trail Ride

For conference or family groups of 8-12 only.

Ride from Rodes Farm Stables to Lake Monocan, dismount and enjoy a lakeside picnic dinner. Then, leisurely ride back to the stables as the sun sets over the Blue Ridge Mountains. 2 week advanced confirmed reservations required. Days and times are flexible depending on the season. Not available Saturday evenings in the Summer (June7-August30).

Afterschool Program for Continuing Students

Ride the school bus to Rodes Farm Stables for our intensive, fun group lessons for the beginner to intermediate rider. In addition to the riding lesson, grooming, tacking, and basic horse care will also be emphasized.

Spring Session: 8 weeks, April 8 - May 27
Fall Session: 12 weeks, September 9 - November 25

Tuesdays: Elementary School children ages 7-12, 3pm - 4:30pm
Thursdays: Middle and High School ages 12 andup 4pm - 5:30pm

Pony Rides

Pony rides are a great introduction to the joys of riding for riders of all ages. Family members who will be leading the ponies need to wear closed toed, sturdy shoes.

Cost: $15 for 15 minutes

Lessons

We offer half-hour private or semi-private (2 students) English style riding lessons for age 7and up. Lessons are taught by our qualified instructors and follow the USPC (United States Pony Club) and CHA standards of horsemanship and safety.

Summer Riding Camp

Join us for a fun, intensive, educational week of hands-on horsemanship! Our day camp is designed for the beginner to intermediate rider ages 8-14. Helmets and paddock boots or shoes with a 1" heel are required. All campers need to bring riding clothes, swimsuit and towel, lunch and a snack.

Each day will include

  • Lots of riding
  • Horse Management
  • Natural Horsemanship
  • Swimming at Lake Monocan

Camp weeks are Tuesdays through Fridays 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Cost per week is $360
There is a 10% discount for families enrolling two or more children.

Advance registration is required. Camp books quickly, so make your reservation early.


Riding reservations are subject to cancellation by the stable for unsafe weather or footing conditions.

Riding activity rates, dates, and times are subject to change without notice.

If you must cancel your riding reservation, 24 hours is required or a 50% cancellation fee will apply.
