The weather at Wintergreen Resort is a major factor in the resort's popularity as a true, four season destination. Its unique location and sprawling scope often generate questions from guests regarding weather conditions they might expect during a visit to the resort.

The resort's 11,000 acres encompass land in the Rockfish River Valley where visitors will find Wintergreen's Stoney Creek Golf Course, Tennis, and Lake Monocan. At an elevation of less than 700 ft. above sea level, summer season visitors experience air temperatures slightly lower than those found in nearby Charlottesville but with increased breezes due to the surrounding mountain air patterns.

Here, summer visitors can expect temperatures significantly lower than the region's major metropolitan areas. It is not uncommon to experience temperatures 12 to 15 degrees lower than Charlottesville and more than 18 degrees lower than experienced on the same day in Richmond, Washington D.C. and Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill. These same patterns enable the resort's staff to create enough snow (when Mother Nature doesn't fully cooperate with natural snowfall) to rank the destination as the finest winter sports destination in the Mid-Atlantic region.
