What could be better than learning to ski with new friends? Full day and half day programs are available for kids ages 3+.
Wintergreen Snowsports School has been helping Scouts attain their Snow Sports merit badge for many years and is familiar with the snow sports merit badge requirements and workbook.
Wintergreen has excellent terrain and qualified instructors (certified with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) who have specialized training for the merit badge requirements for the Downhill (Alpine) Skiing option and the Snowboarding option. Wintergreen does not have instructors or terrain available for the Cross Country (Nordic) Skiing option.
Scouts who are most successful in attaining their Snow Sports merit badge have completed workbook sections 1-4 and are ready for section 5 which is on the snow. If the candidate is already comfortable skiing or riding on Intermediate terrain the instructor can help them complete section 5 and evaluate their on snow skills in a 1.25 hour lesson
For beginner skiers and snowboarders it is more difficult to learn and master all of the skills needed to safely meet the merit badge requirements on intermediate terrain. We recommend a 3 hour lesson for beginners and keep the lesson on beginner terrain.
Instructors will sign each page of the appropriate option in workbook section 5 indicating the results of the evaluation. Counselors are welcome to join the lessons but are not required to. In addition to helping with section 5 the instructor can help with questions and provide assistance as needed with sections 1-4.
|Number of Skiers||Number of Snowboarders||Cost for 1.25 hour, Per person||Cost for 3 hour, Per person|
*These costs are for lessons only, and do not include slope access pass or rental. For groups of 5 or more discounts are available, and for more information call Ski Group Services at 434-325-8164.
