Whether you are an advanced beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, the #1 ranked Wintergreen Tennis Academy has programs specially tailored to improve your game and have fun.

Some of the skills you will acquire include: doubles positioning and movement, mental toughness techniques, communication, racquet skills, and aggressive play such as poaching and the “I” formation.

 

All academies include free outdoor court time, discounted indoor court time, free use of our demo racquets, and an academy souvenir.

Academy participants also receive:

  • 15% Pro Shop discount
  • 20% discount on the Daily Lodging Rate (excluding holidays).
  • Club members receive a 20% discount, and their accompanied guests are eligible for a 10% discount
  • All past Academy participants receive a 10% discount

Wintergreen Racquet Sports Facility

Wintergreen Racquet Sports Facility has recently added eight permanent Pickleball courts, to the six temporary indoor courts for a total of twelve courts on the mountain.

Pickleballers can take advantage of private reservation times, weekly classes like Pickleball 101, private lessons, and Open Play Pickleball. Paddles and balls are available for rent.

Open Play Pickleball Doubles

Wintergreen’s Pickleball Open Play is made for anyone eager to meet other players, play competitive matches, and have fun. Open play is a great way to get the skills and reps you need to take your game to another level quickly. Players of all levels are welcome.

Wintergreen Pickleball Facility is only available to Wintergreen Club Members and Wintergreen Resort Lodging Guests. There are rental accommodations throughout the mountain that are not managed by Wintergreen Resort, and do not have access to these exclusive facilities.

Steve Campbell

Steve Campbell, Wintergreen’s Director of Racquet Sports, is a USPTA tennis professional with over 30 years of tennis management, junior development, and coaching experience in Colorado, Hawaii, California, and Texas.

Colleen Patton Campbell

Colleen Patton Campbell is a USPTA tennis professional with thirty years of tennis teaching and playing experience in Colorado, Hawaii, and California. Colleen brings a contagious enthusiasm and passion to teaching tennis.

Ethan Matthews

Ethan Matthews is originally from Boise, Idaho where he played and coached alongside famed tennis coach Greg Patton at the Crane Creek Country Club. Prior to coming Wintergreen he was an instructor at the world-class tennis destination Harmony Meadows in Manson, Washington. Coach Ethan is a knowledgeable and highly enthusiastic coach and sports fanatic.

July

July 3 to 6 –Stoney Creek Golf and Tennis Camp – 4 Days with 20 hours of comprehensive fun golf and tennis instruction by a PGA Golf Professional and USPTA Tennis Professional. With a small student to teacher ratio, daily games and contests, afternoons open for practice, lunch with the instructors, and Stoney Creek pool time daily.

July 10 to 13 – Wintergreen Junior Tennis Academy – High School Team and Tournament Level Only – Wintergreen Junior Tennis Academy utilizes the proven GreatBase tennis curriculum to help players develop a strong foundation. The GreatBase curriculum was developed by Steve Smith after having studied tennis teaching masters and methodologies for four decades. This academy is geared towards tournament level and ranked players, 14-18 years.  Working on technique, doubles play, match play, winning strategies, and mental toughness. 

July 26 to 29 – Stoney Creek Golf and Tennis Camp – 4 Days with 20 hours of comprehensive fun golf and tennis instruction by a PGA Golf Professional and USPTA Tennis Professional. With a small student to teacher ratio, daily games and contests, afternoons open for practice, lunch with the instructors, and Stoney Creek pool time daily.

July 27 to 30 – Racquet Wars Tennis Tournament – The 2023 Racquet War Tennis Tournament Series stops here at Wintergreen Resort for three days of doubles action. The Tournament Series uses the Waterfall format, with every team playing two no-ad, eight-game pro sets on Friday in their respective Draw before being placed in a division based on the result of those two contests.

August

August 5 to 6 – High Performance Pickleball with Scott Moore – Step up your game with intensive training in strategy, technique, skill development, positioning, effective practice, and mental toughness with the winningest senior pro player of all time, Scott Moore. You will improve your mental game, shot making, shot selection, learn new strategies, drills, and a systematic approach to pickleball to help you become a more effective, better player.

August 7 to 10 – Wintergreen Junior Tennis Academy – All Skills and Ages Program – Wintergreen Junior Tennis Academy utilizes the proven GreatBase tennis curriculum to help players develop a strong foundation. The GreatBase curriculum was developed by Steve Smith after having studied tennis teaching masters and methodologies for four decades. All Skills program is designed for junior tennis players of any skill level and background, ages 8 – 14. Campers will learn fundamentals, strategy, and drills to improve their game.

August 7 to 10 – Stoney Creek Golf and Tennis Camp – 4 Days with 20 hours of comprehensive fun golf and tennis instruction by a PGA Golf Professional and USPTA Tennis Professional. With a small student to teacher ratio, daily games and contests, afternoons open for practice, lunch with the instructors, and Stoney Creek pool time daily.

September

September 2 to 3 – Labor Day Weekend Team Tennis Challenge -This two-day event, given the team structure of the event, players need to play on both days. Teams will compete against each for the WG Independence Weekend Championship. On Saturday, starting at 9:30am at Devils Knob Racquet Sports, each team will play the other 3 teams for one 30 minute set, a total of 90 minutes of play no-ad scoring.  On Sunday the top 2 teams will compete for the gold and silver levels in a 3 set match regular scoring, with the third set being a 13 point tie-breaker. September 3 – Pickleball 1-day event – 12pm-4pm – at Devils Knob Racquet Sports
Your standard court fee will give you access to the pickleball courts starting at noon through 4pm for round robin shift & split play for those who would like to. While you may if you wish, you are not expected to play for 4 hours, you may come and go as you please.

September 3 – Starter Pickleball Clinic – 1pm-2pm – at Devils Knob Racquet Sports
The very basics… for those who have not played before or do not understand the rules. Please be certain you can move around without losing your balance.

September 3 – Positioning/Strategy Clinic – 2pm-3pm – Advanced Players Only

Do you know the proper positioning and strategies to win more points?
When should you come to the no volley line?
Where should you aim your shots?
When do you hit it hard, when do you hit it deep, and when do you dink?
How to decide if you should hit an offensive shot or a defensive shot.
This clinic will cover the basics of positioning and strategy that will take your game to the next level.

October 6-8 – Legends Pickleball Tournament – At Devils Knob Racquet Sports – Intermediate -Advance Players Only

This event is run by USA Pickleball, which
is the National Governing Body for the sport of
pickleball in the U.S. and provides players with
official rules, tournaments, and rankings.
