There’s a point each fall when Wintergreen begins to feel a little different. The mornings turn cool and quiet, the afternoons are comfortable enough to spend outside, and the first hints of color begin to appear across the mountain. Before long, the Blue Ridge is covered in a patchwork of reds, oranges and golds.
It’s a season that invites you to slow down, get outside and see where the day takes you.
Fall is a great time to explore Wintergreen. The mountain’s trails take you through changing forests, past waterfalls and to overlooks with views stretching across the Blue Ridge. With cooler temperatures and the leaves beginning to turn, even a familiar trail can feel a little different this time of year.
Golfers can enjoy comfortable fall temperatures at Devils Knob and Stoney Creek, while racquet sports offer another way to stay active outdoors without the heat of summer.
For families, Discovery Ridge Adventure Center offers plenty to do on weekends, including climbing, mini golf, disc golf, gem mining, bungee trampolines and the indoor ninja course.
There’s plenty happening around the mountain this fall, too.
Oktoberfest returns October 17 with German inspired food, live music and festive games. For a different view of the season, hop aboard a Colors of Fall Chairlift Ride and take in the changing landscape from above the treetops.
As Halloween approaches, the mountain takes on a different personality. Spooktacular Haunted Chairlift Rides return October 29 through November 1, offering a spooky way to experience Wintergreen after dark.
Of course, fall doesn’t have to mean filling every hour of the day.
A cool afternoon is a good excuse to slow down with a spa treatment, linger over a meal or settle in by the fireplace after spending the day outside. Seasonal dining at Devils Grill, The Edge and Upper Crust Pizza gives you plenty of ways to refuel before calling it a night.
That may be one of the best things about fall at Wintergreen. There’s plenty to see and do, but there’s no need to rush. Take a hike, ride the lift, play a round of golf or simply find a quiet spot to enjoy the changing leaves.
The mountain is ready for fall. Come see it at your own pace.
