Lake Monocan


Lake Monocan will be open from the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend through the Monday of Labor Day Weekend. Hours of operations are subject to change so please check This Week at Wintergreen before your trip.

Lake Monocan, a 20-acre lake and park is located at 239 Camping Ridge Lane in Stoney Creek in the valley and is staffed daily with a lifeguard, weather permitting. Snack bar, paddle boards, kayaks, aqua cycles, sandy beach, picnic area and outdoor charcoal grills are available. Some fees apply; towels not provided, enjoy our new loungers, chairs and sun shade.

Please check This Week at Wintergreen for current hours of operation. Lake Monocan is closed on Tuesdays.

Access & Rates

Members and all registered resort guests have complimentary access to Lake Monocan Park. You will need to present a proper ID or pass for complimentary access. Each guest will be required to get a wristband at the snack bar (located at the dock).

Saturday Exclusive Lake Monocan is only open to registered Wintergreen Resort guests, Members and Guests of Members (fees apply). Lake Monocan is closed to the general public on Saturdays.

Picnic Areas at Lake Monocan

Any of six picnic areas can be reserved for a fee, in addition to the Park Access Fee. Each picnic area has an eight foot long table, charcoal grill and trash can.

Snack Bar

A full service snack bar offers chicken nuggets, mini pizzas, candy, and novelty ice creams. 

Activities at Lake Monocan - 

The lake offers rental kayaks, paddleboats, and paddleboards. Last rental is available one hour before scheduled closing. There is a paved two mile walking/running trail that follows the lake and the Stoney Creek Golf Course.

  • Kayak Single $25 per hour; $18 per ½ hour
  • Kayak Double $25 per hour; $18 per ½ hour
  • Aqua Cycle $25 per hour; $18 per ½ hour
  • Stand Up Paddle Boards $25 per hour; $18 per ½ hour

Electronic Assist Mountain Bikes

The latest craze in cycling. E-bikes are equipped with a battery-powered ‘assist’ that gives you a boost so you can zip up hills and over tough terrain. Riders must have some level of off-road biking experience and be at least 5' tall.

239 Camping Ridge Lane, Nellysford, VA 22958. From I-64 take Exit 107 (Crozet, US-250). Take US-250 West 4.7 miles to VA-151 South, turn left. Follow VA-151 South 11 miles to Monocan Drive - look for the Stoney Creek at Wintergreen sign. Continue on Monocan Drive for 1.9 miles; turn right on Camping Ridge Lane (you'll see a sign for Lake Monocan Park).
