You may have noticed some warmer temps lately, but...
WE STILL HAVE SNOW!
We're open every day this week, 9 am-9 pm for skiing, riding and tubing. If you're looking toward the weekend, have no fear, we will still have snow. Trail count may be changing but we will still have a variety of terrain open, including The Highlands.
Virginia weather can be a roller coaster and we're used to the ride. We just plan ahead, make snow when we can, and snowfarm all night to groom the slopes to the best possible conditions.
And remember, spring skiing can be great. Warmer temps mean less layers - you can even work on your tan!Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Tuesday, February 20, 2018
It has been a great holiday weekend and we're open 9 am-9 pm for skiing, riding and tubing today! 24/25 slopes are open today with spring-like conditions. For mogul fans, Outer Limits is bumped up for you to enjoy. There are also some moguls on the upper left side of Cliffhanger for added fun.
We were able to make snow most of Saturday, so thanks to SNOWPOWER and snowfarming we were able to regain a slope (Outer Limits) for Sunday. Despite some challenges from Mother Nature, our snowmakers and snowfarmers continue to perform miracles.
Check out these pictures from some of the events we had this weekend! We had parties on the Blue Ridge Terrace, Tap Takeovers, boot toss, glow stick parade, tennis events and more! If you missed it or just want some more, check our Olympic Events to see what we have coming up!

But the big news is... IT'S SNOWING! At the moment, some big flakes are coming down. We're still not sure exactly what we're going to get, but temps are cold and snow has started, so that's always a good sign! Thanks to everyone who did snow dances - keep them coming!! Snowmaking returned very early this morning too and we will continue to lay down new snow throughout the day.
Roads are in good shape - come up and enjoy the POWDER that is on the way!
And in between runs, make sure you check out all the fun events happening this weekend. There's a Ski Boot Dance Party starting at 1 pm on the Blue Ridge Terrace With Stable Craft Brewing!

Have you ever heard this saying?
Red sky at night, sailor's delight;
Red sky in morning, sailor take warning.
Well, there was a red sky this morning, and according to the old saying, that means a storm is on the way. What exactly the storm will bring is up for debate. And what the top of the mountain gets, will be different from where you are. The weather models seem to change on us every hour, so we aren't really sure if we'll get a wet mix or 3-5 inches of snow. Start your snow dance!
We're hoping for the best in terms of weather, but either way, it's going to be a really fun weekend! We have a ton of events scheduled, including:
We still have a bunch of snow and the conditions are good. We closed a few trails today, but they will be back tomorrow after some heavy "snowfarming" by our awesome snow groomers. Our snowmaking team is coming in tonight and we will be making snow at every opportunity.

We keep our roads in good shape for arrivals, but the best thing to do is always to come up before the snow. Don't get snowed out! Get snowed in at Wintergreen and never miss a powder day.

The weather is wet, but the snow is still great. ALL trails are open 9 am-9 pm with great spring-like skiing, riding, and tubing.
Rain happens from time to time and it's a good thing because it fills up the tanks and snow ponds to make more snow after the weather moves out. We anticipate days like this, building our base so that we can withstand a bit of wet weather. It's no big deal - just make sure to bring your waterproof gear so that you can enjoy the snow comfortably.
The even better news is that there is a chance for snowmaking tomorrow night, so crews will be standing by to add new snow onto our base and refresh all the surfaces.Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Sunday, February 11, 2018

Some people put their faith in the Groundhog in Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil. But around here, we have our own furry prognosticator, Wintergreen Will! The good news is that this year, Punxsutawney Phil and Wintergreen Will agree: AT LEAST six more weeks of winter!
Wintergreen Will rose with the sun this morning and went on his annual snowmobile ride around the slopes. He even got a chance to do a little snow grooming in the pisten bully. After taking stock of the situation, and seeing all the snow we have, he decided that we would indeed have atleast six more weeks of winter fun. The future was so bright for this mountain the Wintergreen Will had to wear shades.
Every slope but Upper Diamond is open today, and snow conditions are excellent. Our base is 38" and we're open 9 am-9 pm with tons of skiing, riding and tubing.
A couple days and nights of SNOWPOWER and the slopes are in excellent shape. We've got beautiful blue skies as far as the eye can see, and an excellent skiing and riding surface. We had a phenomenal run of snowmaking last night, running on all slopes on the mountain, and our base has increased to 38 inches. Big Acorn and Lower Cliffhanger are closed today for intense snowmaking, but don't worry, they'll be back and better than ever.
The weekend forecast is for conditions that are out of this world.
There's a chance for some natural snow late Thursday and into Friday, but accumulations will probably be small. However, we've got a bigger chance for snow coming on Sunday. We know it's Superbowl Sunday, but you don't have to miss the game! Come up before the snow starts and watch the game at The Edge, or from the comfort of your guest room, home or condo. You won't have to worry about the drive in the morning, simply wake up and enjoy fresh powder!
Plus, if you Join The SNOWPOWER Club, we have special deals on Superbowl Sunday and Feb 5-7 are SNOWPOWER Appreciation Days!
Keep your eye on this blog and Facebook - as we get closer to the snow events, we'll know more!Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Wednesday, January 31, 2018
Winter is back! SNOWPOWER resumed last night at 3:30 am on all slopes, and was helped by a little natural snow from Mother Nature. Natural snow accumulation looks to be 1-2" - and we're open for skiing, riding and tubing, 9 am-9 pm!
We see lots of great snowmaking temps in the forecast. SNOWPOWER should run until Wednesday night, take short break on Thursday, and then return early Friday morning and run through the weekend. We've also got more chances for frozen mixes or snow on Thursday night and Sunday night. That's all good news as we move into February!

Good morning, Wintergreen snow fans! We are open 9 am-5 pm for skiing and riding. Moguls are starting to form on Outer Limits, so if you're a fan of muguls, your time is now!
It may be a little gray today, but it's going to be a GREAT week. SNOWPOWER returns tonight and continues to pump out fresh snow through at least Wednesday. There's a chance of wintery mix today that may turn to snow sometime during the day or later tonight. With the chance of wintery mix today, please check the website for any lift delays that might develop.
Conditions are good despite a bit of wet weather yesterday. Precipitation wasn't substantial, so the slopes didn't suffer much. And with SNOWPOWER and the possibility of snow, conditions will only get better.
There's also the chance for snow on Thursday night through Friday. Right now, our weather center is calling for a 50% chance, so do your snow dances and hope for powder! Make plans to come up now and enjoy it. The best way to visit is with our popular Winter Escape Package that pairs lodging AND lift tickets at a great price.

to be a Super Saturday at Wintergreen. It’s amazing what a few nights of
cold temperatures and our team of highly skilled snowmakers and groomers can
accomplish. We call them SNOWFARMERS because they're the masters at
"growing" snow. It's nothing short of miraculous!
For Saturday we have 23 slopes open with a base of 36+ inches
We’re open from 9 am – 9 pm with excellent conditions for skiing, riding and tubing. Come see the Snowfarmers' new crop of snow!
You all know we have SNOWPOWER, the
snowmaking system that consists of over 400 snowguns, 45 weather stations, and
can cover a football field with 37 feet of snow in just 24 hours. But SNOWPOWER
doesn’t run on its own. SNOWPOWER only works because of our Snowfarmers.
We're working on a new video about our talented Snowfarmers. Watch this sneak preview and see how grooming went Thursday night! Keep an eye out for the full video next week.
TGIF! Friday is here and so is the weekend. After two nights of intense snowmaking, all the surfaces are refreshed and beautiful clean corduroy awaits your skis and snowboards. We're open 9 am-9 pm with excellent conditions.
The weekend will be full of comfortable temps so you won't need too many layers. Saturday's forecast calls for blue skies so it'll be prime time to play in the snow. Some weather may come through on Sunday, so if you'd rather avoid that, come on Saturday!
February is right around the corner and historically we have more days of excellent conditions in February. The best way to visit in February is with our popular Winter Escape Package that pairs lodging AND lift tickets at a great price. It’s the best way to make the most of your getaway!

We've got phenomenal conditions today, open for skiing, riding and tubing, 9 am-9 pm.
The full force of SNOWPOWER was able to return last night, and as of 9 am this morning, had already turned three million gallons of water into snow. Upper Cliffhanger and Devils Elbow will be closed today for extreme and intense snowmaking. Don't worry, they'll be back tomorrow with totally refreshed surfaces.
Conditions are great and they're only going to get better. Snowmaking will continue today and into tomorrow before milder temps sweep in for the weekend. That'll make for a mild weekend with great snow. Then SNOWPOWER returns Monday night to do it all again!

Open for skiing, riding and tubing with 23 trails, 9 am-9 pm!
Temps dropped overnight and are hovering right around snowmaking territory. Currently, the fan guns are on and the "big system," AKA SNOWPOWER, is standing by to jump to full force as soon as possible. Mother Nature is a part of our snowmaking team, but she doesn't always do what we want or expect. We love her though, so we make it work! Our snowmakers are the masters at optimizing for time and temperature to produce amazing effects. On the last snowmaking run, they took us from 12 to 23 slopes in just one week! Go SNOWPOWER and go snowmakers!
SNOWPOWER will refresh all the surfaces and keep conditions strong. By the weekend we'll have some more mild temps which means you can wear less layers as you enjoy the snow!Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Wednesday, January 24, 2018
We had an excellent weekend of skiing, riding, and tubing, and we're not ready to let the fun stop just because it's Monday. Every day is a snow day at Wintergreen... even Mondays! We're open 9 am-5 pm today, and we're back to 9 am-9 pm skiing and riding hours tomorrow.
We'll have mild temps today and tomorrow, which means you can wear less layers while you enjoy our deep base of snow. We haven't lost any of our trails during this short warm up, and snowmaking will be back Tuesday night. In the meantime, we still have plenty of snow to slide on.
January is Learn to Ski & Ride month, and these mild temps make for great learning conditions. Take advantage of this chance to get on the snow! When you stay on our Winter Escape Package (which included lodging AND lift tickets) you can get a discount on our Discover Skiing & Riding Lesson Program. Our instructors are amazing and LOVE to share their knowledge. If you thought that learning to ski or snowboard was something you could never accomplish, think again!

It's a bluebird weekend with lots of snow, lots of trails, and comfortable temps! We're open 9 am-9 pm with tons of skiing, riding and tubing.
The big news is that Devils Elbow and Outer Limits open today. The only trail left to open now is Upper Diamond, and even that's coming really soon. And if you missed the news last week - Big Acorn and Upper Turkey are open too. Big Acorn is always a big favorite, and if you missed it last year, now is your chance!

It's the start of a perfect weekend for skiing, riding, and tubing! Big Acorn and Upper Turkey opened yesterday; Devils Elbow and Outer Limits will open tomorrow.
There's a big chance that we'll reach 100% open trails this weekend. How did we get here? In a word, SNOWPOWER! But there's more to it than that. Let's do the math.
4"=400 million gallons -- About four inches of rain fell across the mountain before MLK Weekend, which equals approximately 400 million gallons of water to feed SNOWPOWER. Here's what we did with it:
What's left to finish the equation? Just Upper Diamond and then all our trails are open! There's a good chance we'll get to 100% open this weekend, so do your snow dances, thank a snowmaker, and get your skis and boards and come enjoy it! Conditions are excellent - it's a great time to be on the mountain!

It's a BLUEBIRD DAY! Mother Nature brought us over four inches of fresh powder yesterday, and today, two of our favorite slopes open: Big Acorn and Upper Turkey!
SNOWPOWER has been pumping out tons of snow - our base is up to 40". Conditions were already excellent before the natural snow - so now they're even excellent-er! That may not be a word, but you know what we mean: the snow is great, some of your favorite runs open today, it's time to be here and enjoy it!
Devils Elbow and The Gap will be next to get finishing touches from SNOWPOWER - they'll open soon.

Hold tight - the rain is nearly over. The sun may peek out as early as 8 am. SNOWPOWER resumes tomorrow as soon as temps allow, which may be in the afternoon or even earlier. Anticipate round the clock snowmaking.
We were prepared for this little warm up and bit of wet weather. The slopes are holding up well - we haven't lost any. We've got plenty of snow for you to come up and enjoy for the holiday weekend! See all MLK Weekend Activities.
One of the many things to be happy about is that the rain has recharged our snowmaking system and given us lots of ammunition to blanket the slopes.
Big Acorn - look out! SNOWPOWER is coming for you soon!
Join us for the first holiday weekend of 2018! Martin Luther King Weekend is here and conditions are great - celebrate with extra time on the slopes. We've also got lots of other fun activities, including a Tap Takeover at Checkerberry Cabin on Sunday with Stable Craft Brewing. See all activities.
The bit of rain we had this week is on the way out, and cold is forecast to return Saturday morning to make way for a great weekend of skiing, riding, and tubing. We built up a deep snow base in anticipation of Mother Nature's curve balls - our slopes can withstand this weather just fine. We expect snowmaking to resume early Saturday evening to freshen everything up, and we'll start working on new terrain soon.
Wintergreen is your headquarters for family fun. Recently, Natalie Faunce from NBC 10 out of Roanoke got a chance to bring her family and experience our winter family fun.

We’re coming off a great weekend where everyone we talked to told us how phenomenal the conditions are right now. It’s a great feeling to have our mountain full of happy skiers and amazing snow.
This week, you can expect more of the same great conditions with temps that are a bit warmer. Goodbye arctic blast! Even if we get a little rain, that’s not a bad thing. A little bit of rain won’t hurt our open terrain (our base is deep), but some rain will recharge our system and spur on more snowmaking to refresh the surfaces and open more terrain.
Looking ahead to MLK Weekend, conditions will still be fantastic. The forecast is for more normal winter temps for Virginia, so temps will be more comfortable without as many layers! Snowmaking will likely return Saturday night to freshen the surfaces and power us through the holiday weekend. We’ve got tons of fun activities over the week including:

It's all good news today! Open from 9 am-9 pm for lots of great skiing, riding, and tubing. Conditions are fantastic with a deep base of crisp snow. Plus, another trail in The Highlands opens - come enjoy Lower Cliffhanger today!
We've got sunny skies and ideal skiing conditions for the weekend. Temps are on the cold side, but it's also very dry, so it doesn't feel as cold as it might if there was more humidity in the air. We suggest dressing in layers and taking breaks to warm up throughout the day.
The main Terrain Park on Upper Diamond Hill will open tomorrow. So in addition to Lower Cliffhanger, we'll have lots of new features in the Terrain Park to enjoy.
Snowmaking resumes tonight, and there's a chance for some natural snow on Monday.

Temps are dropping and Santa is coming. We're all getting an amazing Christmas present this year - SNOWPOWER returns tonight to refresh the surfaces and work on The Highlands and Lower Diamond!
When we said temps are dropping and Santa is coming, we meant that literally. Before Santa embarks on his yearly trip around the globe, he'll make a special stop on our slopes. Today, December 24, from 12-2 pm, Jolly Old St Nick will be cruising around the slopes with Christmas cheer and candy!
With snowmaking returning tonight, we'll be working hard to open The Highlands as soon as possible. There's even the possibility for some natural snow tonight. We don't expect much accumulation, but even flurries are a great way to celebrate Christmas. Looking farther ahead in the forecast, there's the possibility for up to 5" of snow on Friday. That means we could have POWDER next weekend!
Merry Christmas, everyone! Wishing you all the joy, hope and MAGIC of the season! Check out this timelapse video from the first few days of snowmaking this season.

Forecast shows a chance for a bit of snowmaking tonight. But either way, it looks like we made it to Santa's nice list this year and we'll have a great present on Christmas - the return of SNOWPOWER! We've already made some snow on The Highlands, and we'll be going back to start finishing trails and opening new terrain as soon as possible. Stay tuned to The Blog for updates.

We’ll see temps that are a bit warmer this week, but our deep base of 20”-30” won’t go away fast. Even if you don’t have snow in your backyard, don’t worry – we do! We’ve built up a lot of snow, so this week you’ll be able to enjoy it with temps that are above freezing. Shed a layer and enjoy great early season conditions.
Tubing will be closed today and tomorrow (Monday-Tuesday) to rebuild for the holiday. Tubing will open for more tubular fun on Wednesday. If you’re planning to tube, please buy tickets in advance as it is very likely that we will sell out. Tickets are available for purchase starting on Sundays for the following week.
We have some chances for snowmaking during the next week, and rest assured, we will be ready to go at every opportunity. Colder weather will be back before you know it and we’ll get back to pumping out the white stuff.Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Monday, December 18, 2017

It's Virginia's largest tubing park and it opens today! We'll have six lanes open for tubular fun today and tomorrow from 12-8:30 pm. Last night we fired up SNOWPOWER at 6:43 pm and have been
pumping snow onto the slopes ever since! We’re lucky to have a great snowmaking
forecast for the foreseeable future: freezing or near-freezing temps both day
and night. Rest assured, we will be making snow at every possible opportunity!
Our snowmakers are the best. Lots of people think of SNOWPOWER
as just the snowmaking system, but it’s also the people. Snowmakers, mechanics,
everyone who helps us get ready for the busy winter season, all of our friends, family and fans who come enjoy the snow – they’re
all a big part of SNOWPOWER. Go SNOWPOWER, Go!
The big announcement is: projected opening day is December 15!
We are focusing on laying down a quality base on our core
slopes and making sure that we have a strong opening with great conditions. How
many slopes does that mean? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll keep you up to date
on this blog and on social media. Do you follow us on Facebook? We posted
several live videos
last night of the beginning of snowmaking. Look for more awesome updates like
that in the future!
This year we asked Santa to bring lots of great skiing,
riding, and tubing for Christmas, and we think we made his “Nice” list!
After we open with core slopes, we hope to open tubing
the weekend before Christmas, and we hope to open The Highlands during the
Christmas holiday period.
So wax up your skis and boards and get ready to slide –
the time is coming soon!

If you've visited Wintergreen, there's a good chance that you've seen Wintergreen Adaptive Sports (WAS) in action. They give lessons and help people with disabilities and medical conditions get on the snow to enjoy skiing and snowboarding.
Check out this great story in the Daily Progress about WAS!
Lessons are $60 for one session or $100 for both; the price includes a lift ticket, adaptive or regular equipment and individual instruction. Reserving your space in advance is recommended; be sure to fill out the online enrollment form at wintergreenadaptivesports.org/student-registration so WAS can match you with the right instructor.
