A big thanks to everyone who came out this holiday weekend! Lots of fun was had by all -- skiing, riding and tubing on great snow with spring skiing temps.
The weather may be a bit warmer than usual but we still have a lot of snow and almost all of our trails are open. Despite temperature challenges, snowmakers (or should we call them snow magicians?) are working hard to deliver an enjoyable surface. Their hard work has paid off, we have maximized snow production at every turn and preserved trails and conditions to an amazing degree. Keep an eye on The Slope Report and keep thinking cold.
In the meantime --now is the time to enjoy some spring skiing!

Yesterday, The Blue Ridge Express transformed into The Lift to Love from 1-4 pm. Popular love songs filled the air, a hearts-and-flowers decorated archway formed over the singles lift lines, and speed daters took their chances at finding "The Powder of Love."
Cupid and The Captain of Love were on hand to facilitate the event. Cupid's arrow struck many unsuspecting skiers and snowboarders who were then persuaded to join in on the fun. Before we knew it, singles and couples alike were joining the event. After all, Valentine's Day celebrates all kinds of love, from love for a significant other, friends and family, or just love of snowsports!
Participants were given Hershey's kisses from Cupid's kissing booth, but some took the kissing booth a bit more literally. A drawing will be held to give away a date at Bold Rock Hard Cider to one lucky participant. Participants - don't forget to sign up for the drawing!
An amazing time was had by all, and Wintergreen would like to thank everyone who helped make the event a huge success, from Cupid and the whole crew who ran the event, to all the participants who were such great sports!Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Wednesday, February 15, 2017
It’s amazing what our team of
snowmakers can do! It’s been a roller coaster of temperatures lately, but
we have been ready at every turn to make the most of cold spells and turn it
into lots of snow. If you need to see it to believe it, check out the pictures
below that were taken this morning! Better yet, come
see for yourself – blue bird skies and new surfaces.
The week ahead is full of snowmaking opportunities. We
cranked up SNOWPOWER last night at 1 am, and made snow until noon. And we’ll be back at it tonight. Then we should be able to
make snow Wednesday night through Friday.
What does that mean for you? Great snow conditions all week that continue through the holiday weekend. Next weekend may be a bit warmer, but all that will mean is warmer air above all our great snow.

Temps dropped and we were ready. SNOWPOWER came roaring back early this morning and we are blanketing the slopes with fresh fluffy white stuff for the weekend! Slopes will be refreshed and ready for a great winter weekend of skiing, riding and tubing! Keep an eye on the
Slope Report, you may even see some slope additions!
Another winter classic is on the horizon: Presidents’ Weekend is February 17-20. We’re seeing nighttime snowmaking temps next week which will make for a special looong weekend full of great snow and winter fun. In addition to excellent skiing, riding and tubing, we have wonderful activities
planned, including Demo Days by Freestyle, Wintergreen Rail Jam, great music slopeside, live entertainment at The Edge, and NASTAR!
It’s too soon to be completely confident of the weather next weekend but we’re seeing seasonable temps and clear skies in the forecast.Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Friday, February 10, 2017
This Valentine's Day, discover The Powder of Love on top of the mountain at Wintergreen Resort.
On February 14, The Blue Ridge Express becomes The Lift to Love from 1-4 pm. We'll have a separate line for speed dating, we'll pair you up and send you off with a card full of conversation starters to make talking easy. Remember, you both already have snowsports in common, and have fun!
If you don't discover The Powder of Love with your match, simply part ways after unloading the lift and try again after your next run. If you find a chairlift love connection, continue skiing together or meet up later. Who knows, dinner may be on someone else!
Whether you find your Snow Match or not, this will be a low-pressure, fun event with Hershey kisses for all daters and a special visit from Cupid!
This event is free with a valid lift ticket.Last Edited by The Mountain Messenger on Monday, February 06, 2017

Even though we’ve had a couple warm days, the highs on Saturday and Sunday will be near 40 degrees – great for enjoying outside fun.

Wintergreen is a hiker's paradise with over 30 miles of marked trails just on our property, not to mention off the Blue Ridge Parkway and beyond. Winter hiking can be an exhilarating experience. With clear skies and open canopy, views which cannot be seen during warmer months are found. While enjoying winter hiking, it is important to note a few aspects;
As a special treat, we asked Josh Palumbo from The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen for his top three winter hikes. Visit The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen for more details. Hiking Guides are available for $3 at the Front Desk or at the Nature Center. This guide gives detailed descriptions of each trail, with distance, difficulty and key features to note while hiking.
Fortunes Ridge Trail - The Fortunes Ridge Trail traverses a diversity of terrain types ranging from mountain laurel thickets to rugged rock formations. The winter time appeal for this trail lies in the unique little waterfall located approximately .6 miles up the trail from Fortunes
Ridge Drive. In the winter, the waterfall freezes into gorgeous ice formations that are quite picture worthy. This trail can be made into a nice loop. Head west on Laurel Ridge Loop, cross Wintergreen Drive, then head south on Pond Hollow right back to your car. This hike is rated moderate to difficult.
Blackrock Trail - This south facing trail slope offers the hiker rock formations and wind-bent table mountain pine along it’s approximately 1 mile length. The winter is the perfect time to venture to the Blackrock Trail due to the ever present view shed. Once the leaves hit the
ground, this trail becomes one lovely glance into the Rockfish Valley and the Blue Ridge. This hike is rated as difficult.
Lower Shamokin Falls – This 3.5 mile out and back destination hike is a gem in the Wintergreen hiking trail system. The trail leads the hiker through mature oak forests into the Shamokin Gorge to the largest waterfall on the property. The view of the waterfall improves greatly once winter arrives and the leaf cover disappears. This hike is rated as moderate. Please note: avoid using this trail until January as it traverses legal deer hunting zones.

Early this morning before sunrise we got the temps and flipped the switch and SNOWPOWER came roaring back to life. YES! If you’ve been watching the webcams you might have noticed us hitting Upper Dobie hard with the full system. We also began snowmaking on Eagle’s Swoop and The Plunge tubing park.
We were able to run the full system for a few hours and we plan to resume snowmaking tonight. The forecast also shows that we will be able to make snow Saturday night into the early afternoon on Sunday. We will be snowmaking at every opportunity from now on, concentrating our efforts on blanketing Upper Dobie first. There are some great chances for snowmaking in the coming weeks.

We know everyone is pumped up and ready for snow – we are too! Don’t be dismayed by the rain. While we wish it was snow, rain refills the snowmaking ponds and the groundwater, and gives us the ammo to make great snow.
SNOWPOWER is coming back soon. The current weather forecast indicates that we may be able to make snow overnight on December 3. The forecast also indicates that we will be able to resume regular nightly snowmaking on December 5 and continue throughout most of the month. Lots of time for SNOWPOWER to work its magic and to get back to doing what we love best: turning this place into a winter wonderland!
We are working hard for a December 10 opening day, however, Mother Nature is having some fun with us. Rest assured we will be making snow at every opportunity. We are focused on opening the 2016-17 season December 10-11 with limited terrain, with plans to open more terrain and lifts for December 17-18.
The chiller arrives for the ice skating rink on Monday. We will build the rink and make ice as temps allow, and we anticipate offering ice skating on December 17. Tubing won’t be far behind – we plan to be able to offer tubing by Christmas.
As always, remember to THINK COLD, and get ready to slide!

We wish the entire Wintergreen family, from our Members and Property Owners to day and overnight guests, a wonderful holiday season. Thanksgiving starts the season and we think it fitting to start with being thankful.
So here are a few things we’re thankful for!
Our stunning Blue Ridge Mountain setting. We are very fortunate to live and work in the Blue Ridge. Every day brings a new setting to see the sun rise or set and every moment in between.
We work with a team of associates who are dedicated to bringing excellent guest service to each and every one of our guests. We want our guests to experience all that Wintergreen offers and to create lasting memories and visit often!
We have loyal members, property owners and guests who support us in so many ways. And we offer you our heart-felt thanks and look forward to welcoming you back soon. May this holiday season bring you joy and a thankful heart.
Snowmaking has begun! Things are off to a great start – we began Saturday night around midnight and will continue through Tuesday morning.
What we’ve done so far is put down a good base. We’ve made the most of this cold snap and we’re cooling down the ground so we’ll have a great base for future snowmaking efforts as temperatures allow. We watch several weather services throughout the day so we won’t miss a SNOWPOWER opportunity, but this also means our plans are always in flux and depend on some cooperation from Mother Nature.
We hope to open the 2016-17 winter season between December 10-15, but it’s totally dependent on the weather. Things will get clearer as we get closer. So think cold and stay tuned! We’re itching to flex our SNOWPOWER muscles!

Everybody wants to know when SNOWPOWER starts, so here's an update! It depends on what exact weather we end up getting – the forecast is in constant state of flux, so giving specifics can be difficult. BUT, we are ready and as soon as temperatures permit, we’ll start making snow. Currently, it looks like we can start on Saturday night and go into Monday. Stay tuned to the blog and Facebook for the most up to date information. We will share as much as we can, as soon as we can!
